Having a great website means nothing if you're not getting leads... we explain how to change that.
You can have it all with a website. An eye-catching landing page, a beautiful contact form and all the animations you can dream of. But if your website is not providing you traffic or leads, then something seriously has gone wrong.
In this article, from myself, Luke, co-director at MEEDEA, I'm going to break down the five possible causes why your website isn't providing you traffic or leads. And if you can't identify which of these five possible causes is affecting your site, there's no worries. My discovery call button is at the bottom - we can help.
Consider these five areas, action them, and you'll be onto a winner in no time.
How many visitors are you actually getting?
As a large business, someone in your team should have GA4 connected (Google Analytics), or at the very least access to Google Search Console and some web visitor analytics. Study them.
As a smaller business, your web designer should be able to give you access or at least provide you with a basic report on what your current volumes looks like.
If the visitor count is low, then you're looking for an SEO, social media management or a paid solution (Facebook Ads or Google Ads) to solve that. A website on its own is just a website, and how it performs traffic-wise over time needs consistent time investment (SEO or Social Media) or paid spend.
In traffic building terms, you either pay to win with a paid option, or you build out organic. We recommend doing both, as the aim here is to get your paid spend down through organic rankings.
If you're not showing up at all in Google, you need to fix that with some technical SEO.
It goes without saying, if the issue is traffic, then the rest of the article isn't for you. Whatever your industry, there can be plenty of reasons why traffic is low - local market volumes, volumes in general, or you need an SEO service like ours. Action this first if it's needed.
Use SEOptimer's free technical SEO audit tool to understand at a quick high level some possible action tips for why Google is not displaying your site, and what possible usability and performance issues your site might be running into.
Remember: It's totally normal for some issues to occur. Websites are fiddly things and some of the actions may have been overlooked, so don't criticise your current web designer too much - raise the point and let them fix it.
So many technical things could be at play, check these first. Is the page load speed too long? What's the bounce rate looking like on different pages? Study every area of your website technically first.
Let's say the above two points aren't the issue. You're already receiving good traffic, and your website or eCommerce store is well-designed. The issue is purely low conversion rate performance.
This is where you potentially need to work with a conversion rate optimisation service like MEEDEA's, because this is about actioning marketing changes within your business.
Creative steps like including a live chat for instant answers, WhatsApp buttons for different communication channels, various banners and a strong CTA strategy, and an overall different content writing approach can help. If you're unsure about your messaging, speak to us about our content writing services and how best to approach it with how best to convert website visitors into leads.
If the issue is large traffic, low conversions, something is wrong that needs a consultant to look at. Even small tweaks in the sales process, content approach and messaging can increase conversions by 1–5% immediately.
➡️ Should you be public with your pricing if you are?
➡️ Are you priced too high?
➡️ Is there a barrier of entry that customers are hitting before purchasing?
➡️ Are you in a low volume service or in a too small market?
➡️ Is the sales flow to get a lead too long? For example, a long contact form?
➡️ Should you instead be moving to a funnel approach with paid ads?
These are all questions that really need to be helped with on a case-by-case basis. Book a free discovery call with MEEDEA's conversion rate optimisation team to understand and get a free, fresh look at your current strategy.
These changes can mean business transformation at times, but if it's for the profit and loss account turnaround, consider them.
